Looking for a fun appetizer for your playoff party? This is always a crowd favorite!! It’s a festive, game-day spin on the ever popular 7-layer dip.
I can’t show up to a football party or a family gathering without it. And it never lasts very long….
Back in high school my best friend’s mom always made the best “Walking Taco.” Thanks Mrs. B for always having this for us growing up! I always loved being in your home and still feel like part of your family. Love you!
Happy Playoff Season! Go Broncos!!

- 1 large, 30 oz can of refried beans (I buy Rosarita Vegetarian, because they don’t have lard)
- 16 oz. sour cream
- 4 ripe avocados
- 1/2 head of iceberg lettuce, chopped
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1- 4 oz can pitted, sliced black olives
- 1 bag of tortilla chips (our favorite is La Favorita)
Directions:
- In a cookie sheet with high sides, spread evenly the refried beans.
- Reserve about 1/2 cup of sour cream into a resealable plastic bag. Spread the rest of the sour cream evenly across the refried beans.
- In the bowl of a mixer, fixed with the paddle attachment, blend the avocados until smooth. Spread carefully in an even layer across the sour cream. (I use a rubber spatula and spread slowly so not to mix the avocado and sour cream together.)
- Cut a very small corner off of the plastic bag with the sour cream. Pipe lines onto your “field.” I start in the middle, then add the end zones. I roughly measure where the remaining lines go and then add the numbers.
- Add chips around the edge of the field and put the rest in a serving bowl.
- Place all other ingredients into bowls that your guests can add to their plates of walking taco.
If you are making this and don’t want the football field, continue layering with the lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and olives last.
Have fun! Enjoy your Walking Taco!
