This is a great grown-up sauce for ice cream and other desserts. It makes for an easy and elegant end to a dinner party. It is absolutely dee-lish!! Don’t forget the kids…try this yummy Homemade Caramel Sauce.
Whiskey Caramel Sauce
Ingredients:
Makes about 1 cup
- 1 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 T unsalted butter, cut in half
- 1/4 cup cream
- 1/8 t. sea salt
- 1/2 t. vanilla
- 1 1/2 oz Irish Whiskey
Directions:
- Add sugar and water to med. sized heavy saucepan over med. high heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sugar burning.
- Once sugar is dissolved or bubbles start to form around edges of pan, turn heat to high, cover and cook for 2 minutes.
- Remove lid and continue cooking (carefully pick up pan by the handle occasionally and swirl to keep from burning) for several more minutes or until edges begin to turn an amber color. I like to stop here and keep it a lighter caramel color and flavor, but some like it a little darker and more “caramelized.” If you like it darker, cook until a darker amber color forms at edges and a little smoke forms.
- Remove from heat and add one chunk of butter. Stir carefully (it’s very hot, be careful!) until butter is incorporated then repeat with remaining butter. (If it starts to clump, turn heat to low and stir until smooth, then continue with process.)
- Add cream and stir to combine.
- Add vanilla and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Add whiskey and stir once again until smooth.
Enjoy!!!
