I’ve made quite a few trips to the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco to experience the best Irish Coffees in the world!
You can sit at the counter and watch the whole magical process. The bartender lines up about 20 glasses in a row and makes them all at once, assembly line style, faster than imagineable.
Watching the perfection is almost as fun as drinking these wonderful Irish Coffees.
This is my version, after watching the experts years ago. I add Cinnamon Whipped Cream on top of mine, thanks to a suggestion by a sweet friend of mine. This one’s for you, Kimmie!
I hope I can do the Buena Vista justice. But if you’re ever in San Fran, you must stop at the famous Buena Vista, you will not regret it!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!

Ingredients:
Makes 1 serving
- 1 t. sugar
- 2 oz. Irish Whiskey
- 2/3 cup of strong brewed coffee
For Cinnamon Whipped Cream
- 1/2 T ground cinnamon
- 1 cup whipping cream
Directions:
- Fill an 8 oz glass or mug with hot water to heat it up.
- Dump out water and add sugar to bottom of glass.
- Add whiskey and coffee and stir.
- Top with whipped cream
To make cinnamon whipped cream:
- Add whipping cream and cinnamon to bowl of an electric mixer.
- Blend on high speed for 2-4 min. or until thick. Watch closely not to over-whip, it will turn to butter. You could also use a rotary beater or whisk, in which case it may take a little longer. (Totally worth it!!)
Enjoy!!!
