About

Hello!  Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

My name is Gena Hassett.  I am a mom of three, a soccer coach and a teacher who is currently staying home…and blogging.  🙂

My friends and family all know how much time I spend looking for good recipes and creating my own.  So, they often ask, “what’s for dinner, Gena?”

I have always loved cooking, baking and being in the kitchen.  However, it was only when my first son developed severe food allergies that I became aware of what ingredients are in our food.  I HAD to read every label for his safety and quickly realized how much extra sugar, preservatives, hydrogenated oils and other unnecessary and unwanted ingredients are in our food.  I had to make homemade breads that didn’t include wheat, eggs or milk.  As you can imagine, it was no easy task to plan and prepare his meals.  It seemed difficult at the time, but now I realize what a blessing in disguise his allergies were.   I had no choice but to become a label reader and because of that I learned so much about our foods.

Now I spend hours searching for recipes that have good ingredients.  And beyond that I adapt most recipes I find to be simpler and healthier.  Many comfort food recipes call for canned soup, which I love.  But now I realize how bad those processed foods are, so I make my own from scratch.  And that is what I want to share with you!  The secret that cooking from scratch is easier than you think.  However, if you feel that my homemade items are just too much, I can guide you to at least buy the brands with less sugar, no hydrogenated oils, etc….

One last note, I deeply believe that exercise should be everyone’s #1 priority in living a healthy lifestyle.

And finally, balance!  The best philosophy is balance….in all aspects of your life.  (Read more about my philosophy on balance and nutrition here…)

So nice to have you visiting my blog!  I want to inspire you, help you plan, save you some time and share your kitchen with you!

Happy Cooking!

~ Gena

    Gena,

Thanks for visiting my site! (Would you mind telling me how you found my blog?) I would love to get your recipes in my inbox. Cooking is not one of my strong suits. : ) I have a tough time coming up with something to cook. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and recipes. I am making a promise to myself to try at least one of your recipes next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.
